Nov. 9 – M.A.D.E. Student Leadership Summit

The negative images, icons, and narratives associated with many men of color give pause and raise questions as to whether such youth are equipped to expand a positive outlook and to exceed lower-than-expected expectations set forth for them.
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s (UMES) “2nd Annual Student Success Summit: Males of Color Expanding Boundaries and Exceeding Expectations” counters those negative images and narratives by creating multi-pathways for their academic, personal, social, and financial success. The Summit will bring together over 100 high school and college students to participate in active and collaborative dialogue on leadership, character development, values clarification, and issues that are germane to males of color in today’s society. An important outcome is for students to leave the Summit inspired, encouraged, and empowered to succeed by working on collaborative projects, developing tools for success, and contemplating strongly attending UMES and other institutions of higher education.
Summit Speakers include Mr. Stevie “Shakespeare” Baggs, a former Baltimore Raven and many more inspirational presenters.
