Strong half pushes Delmar past Conrad

The Delmar Wildcats field hockey team opened up state tournament play today taking on Conrad at home in front of a large crowd.
The Redskins took the first lead of the game after Dara Spavlik scored from the top of the circle to take a 1-0 lead, but it wouldn’t be long until the Wildcats responded. Delmar’s Ashley Arter scored off of a deflection on a shot by Paige Twilley-Webster to tie up the game heading into halftime, 1-1.
The Wildcats dominated the second half, but they wouldn’t take the lead in the game until there was nine minutes remaining in regulation and clearly, Delmar did not want to go to overtime. Arter had quite the day on corners – she found Caitlyn Wink who laid off the ball to Peyton Kemp for a beautiful goal far-post to take a 2-1 lead. Just five minutes later, Arter scored her second goal of the goal off of another deflection from a Twilley-Webster shot to take a 3-1 lead. Then with just one minute remaining in the game, Kemp put away her second goal of the game as well and that would do it as the Wildcats got the win over Conrad, 4-1.
The Wildcats got past the first round of the tournament as they advance to the quarterfinals.
