Party Like It’s ’98! Crabbers Boys Soccer Are On To States!

The Crisfield boys soccer moved to within 2 wins of a state championship Wednesday when they defeated Colonel Richardson 7-3 in the regional championship game. It marked the first regional championship for Crisfield since 1998. The Crabbers will now travel to Northeast to play Allegany.

Colonel Richardson came out of the gates ready to go, as they grabbed a 1-0 lead just minutes into the game, but the home team came right back. DeaJon McClendon found Johnnoy Taylor, who would send it home to tie up the match. Crabbers would then take the lead after Bruce Emely would find himself open from the top of the box and fire near post for the score. Crisfield would later score their 3rd straight goal as Nate Evans would beat the keeper for the score. But CR would get right back into this thing late in the first half when Nick Roop took a free kick from mid field and Jacob Hicks would head it home far post.

The offense didn’t slow in the second half for either squad. Taylor would send a cross to the far post just a couple minutes into the second half, and Ozzie Zetina would tap it hope. A hand ball in the box on the Colonels would give Crisfield a PK and Emely would fire it in to push their lead to 5-2. The lead then grew to four after JJ Evans was able to head home a cross at the far post. To their credit, the Colonels continued to battle. Hicks would cross one over to Roop, who would be able to just get a foot on it to finish. But the Crabbers just kept on coming. Crisfield would put the game away as Tysean McCready found McClendon, who would put the finishing touches on a very impressive win.
