Dover finishes season strong with win over CR

Clinging to a 1 point lead late on the third quarter, Dover handed the ball off to running back Jerry Warren and watched the junior go 85 yards to the endzone to seal a 24-16 win over rival Caesar Rodney.

Dover kicker James Stock would nail a 29 yard field go, to put the Senators ahead 10-0 on the second quarter. After a big kick return, CR looked to senior captain Michael Clavier, his 1 yard dive would get the Riders their first points of the night, with a good two point conversion to follow.

Just before half, Dover would open up their bag of tricks, as a reverse pass from Breon Dennis hit Dwight Wilson for a 60 yard touchdown, with just 30 seconds to go in the half, the teams would go into the locker rooms with Dover leading 17-8.

After 10 scoreless minutes in the 3rd, Clavier would punch in his second score of the game, while the Riders successfully converted another 2 point try, to close Dover’s lead to 17-16.

Warren’s run would come just at the right time for the Senators. The long run would stretch the Dover lead to 24-16, as the defense would hold late in the third and throughout the 4th. The win gives Dover a final record of 4-6, while the loss put Caesar Rodney at 2-8.
