Warriors Cap Tremendous Season With Title

The Pocomoke field hockey team capped off their tremendous season with a state title Saturday night when they defeated Patuxent 5-0. The win concludes one of the most inspirational and courageous seasons the program has seen as it was dedicated to the loving memory of their late head coach Susan Pusey.

The Warriors came out determined from the start, and would strike first after senior Lexi Butler would find the back of the cage. Then around the 15 minutes mark of the first half, Pocomoke would push their lead to 2-0 after Butler would add an unassisted score. The lead would hold through the remainder of the half, but the Warriors were far from finished. McKenzie Beauchamp would push the lead to 3-0 in the second half after she took a pass from Butler and was able to finish. Then after Beauchamp added another score, Dani Batze would add the final score of the day with she made an incredible diving effort from the far post to get a stick on a loose ball, and put it home. The Warriors defense would do the rest, led by Dom Farrace and Shayla Jones.

For the senior class that had grown up learning to play the game from Coach Pusey, the win signified just how much she meant to not just them, but to their community. The team honored her memory with the way they competed this season, and the met every challenge along the way. Head Coach Castaneda echoed those thoughts, stating what the team did this year was simply incredible and that of the 19 titles the program has, this was the most important one.
