Group takes bike ride for wounded vets

A group called Heroes Haven put on their annual bike escort from Mardela Springs to Sharptown Wednesday evening.

This event is a part of a string of events that helps wounded veterans, police, fire fighters, or anyone hurt in the line of duty.

Some of the wounded vets came in Tuesday and went to the shooting range before the bike ride.

The event had about a hundred bikes come out last year, and they see many vets and wounded heroes come back year after year forging lasting friendships.

"Many many friends, we have a lot of people help sponsor us.  We have two to three fundraisers throughout the year to be able to afford to do this and when these guys come home they do not pay for anything.  We pay for anything.  Gas to get here, plane tickets, whatever they need," said Patrick Pitts with Heroes Haven.

This organization does use multiple fundraisers throughout the year to help pay for this event and are an all volunteer organization.  If you would like to learn more or help out, go to heroeshaven.org.
