Guest bartenders raising money for Puerto Rico

The people of Puerto Rico continue their rebuild efforts following the landfall of Hurricane Maria last month.  One local woman is getting involved by guest bartending and sending the money to victims on the Caribbean island.

Claire Bankert was at the Brick Room in Salisbury Thursday to raise funds for the 3.4 million citizens of Puerto Rico, including some family members.

Bankert is one of just a few in our area who gets to hear first hand accounts of the devastation, as she has two cousins who call the island home.

She says she's learned through a number of conversations that power is limited and supplies aren't getting to where they need to go.

Because of this, she's enlisting the help of Delmarva for a fundraising effort called "United For Puerto Rico," begun by the First Lady of Puerto Rico.

"Between the grid, and between just the roads, you can't even get the supplies and services over to where they need to go.  So, honestly, it's just an absolute wreck down there and so that's why we're doing this, to collect donations to try to do a little bit to send a little bit of help from Maryland."

United for Puerto Rico does have a website that you can go to for more information on how to donate, that is http://prfaa.pr.gov/unitedforpuertorico/.
