MSP conduct patrols to combat aggressive driving in Wicomico Co.
SALISBURY, Md. – Maryland State Police say they have been addressing concerns in and around Wicomico County.
In February, the Salisbury Barrack received a complaint of aggressive driving and reckless operation of motorists in a rural portion of Wicomico County, specifically Nanticoke Road from Salisbury to Bivalve. Residents noted that the behaviors of motorists have only become more aggressive and detrimental to transiting the area.
Using High Visibility Enforcement, statistical enforcement principles, and responding to the needs of the community, MSP Salisbury initiated a mandatory speed enforcement and aggressive driving effort in the area. Troopers were able to provide a visible presence throughout the corridor when weather conditions and calls for service allowed for the effort.
Over the course of 30 days, MSP Salisbury conducted 12 HVE patrols, utilizing 18 troopers and nearly expending 44 hours of man hours over the course of five weeks. We’re told that during this time, troopers conducted 78 traffic stops, issuing 33 citations, 34 warnings, and 2 Safety Equipment Repair Orders. In addition, two DUI arrests, four vehicle search recording two civil Citations for CDS, and two CDS arrests were made. Police say speed violations included speeds between 60 mph and 74 mph in a 50 mph, as well as 48 mph and 56 mph in a 30 mph zone.
