Wilmington and Dover police receive funding to increase patrol

In 2013, the state of Delaware received $32 million in a financial settlement with bank of America stemming from the 2008 financial crisis. Now, $2 million of that will go towards beefing up police patrols in Wilmington and Dover.
Delaware budget lawmakers approved the funding with roughly $500,000 going to Dover to fund more police patrols in areas with a higher crime rate. Most of the remaining $1.5 million will go to Wilmington, where Attorney General Matthew Denn says some trial runs showed decreased crime. The funding will go towards officers working overtime.
Wilmington’s funding is conditional – being that they must report back their efficiency of patrols to ensure that all officers are being used to the best of the department’s ability.
