Two loaded handguns seized during traffic stop

A man was arrested Saturday afternoon after police say a traffic stop led authorities to seize two loaded handguns.

An officer from the Dover Police Department was on patrol near Bay Road and Lafferty Lane when a vehicle was stopped for a registration violation.

During the stop, police say a faint odor of marijuana was detected along with a cigar filling and seeds on the floor of the vehicle.

Authorities say through a computer check, the front seat passenger identified as 23-year-old Jason Mills, revealed Mills was wanted on a local fugitive warrant. 

Officers say during the check, an “unusual amount of movement in the vehicle” which reportedly raised suspicion that the subjects were hiding something. 

Mills and the other passengers was removed to properly check the car.

Underneath the seat Mills was seated, police reportedly found a 9 millimeter glock handgun and .38 colt revolver. According to police, both handguns were loaded.

Mills allegedly admitted to the officer that the firearms belonged to him and was taken into custody.  

Mills was charged with Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, two counts of Possession of Firearm by Person Prohibited, and two counts of Possession of Ammunition by Person Prohibited.

He was committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on a $12,000 secured bond.
