DUI suspect leads police on chase in Berlin

A New Jersey man is now behind bars for reportedly, leading authorities on a chase which ended in a crash in Worcester County.
At about 2:00 PM on Monday, Maryland State Police Berlin Barrack say, they received a call about an intoxicated driver in the area of Route 50 and Route 589. Once troopers located the suspect, later identified as 45-year-old Dale Ronald Elderidge Jr, they reportedly attempted to stop him. That’s when officials say, Elderidge exceeded speeds up to 100mph in an effort to lose police. Deputies from the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office were reportedly called to assist in placing “stop sticks” in the path of Elderidge. He then hit the “stop sticks” which apparently caused a single car crash.
Officials say, all together the chase lasted for nine miles, averaging about six minutes.
Elderidge was reportedly taken into custody without further incident and was not injured. There were also no injuries to law enforcement and no damage to police vehicles.
Troopers have charged Elderidge with DUI and related traffic offenses. He is being held at Worcester County District Court Commissioner on a $5000 bond.
