Worcester Goes Purple continues shoe drive fundraiser

POCOMOKE, Md. – Worcester Goes Purple is continuing their shoe drive fundraiser and they’re holding a collection on Saturday in Pocomoke.
The drive has been going on since January, and it’s all in an effort to raise money that will be used to help pay for addiction recovery efforts in Worcester and Wicomico Counties. So far, the organization has collected about a thousand pairs of shoes, but they’re hoping to collect five thousand.
Worcester Goes Purple will raise money based on the total weight of all of the collected shoes, and the shoes will actually be distributed to developing countries through Funds to Orgs. Organizers say it’s a really simple way to get involved, de-clutter your own home, and really make a difference in the recovery community that’s struggling through the pandemic.
“The recovery community has been so hard hit because of the pandemic because recovery does depend on socialization and routine, which all of those things are just not present now,” said Debbie Smullen of Worcester Goes Purple.
The collection will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Walmart in Pocomoke. Any new or gently used shoes are being collected in mens, womens, and kids sizes.
