Police Chief says bail out laws keep dealers on streets

Crisfield Police Chief Michael Tabor says a recently changed law could be a reason for the spike in overdoses in his city the past three months.
On August 30, Tabor sent a letter to Governor Larry Hogan about the problems that allegedly exist, claiming the change in bail laws made this summer by Maryland allows drug dealers to be set free before their court date to return to the streets to continue selling heroin laced with fentanyl.
The new law allows reduced bail to individuals with no means of support and are non violent.
We reached out to Governor Hogan's office for comment but received no response.
Attorney General Brian Frosh, an advocate for the change, said poor defendants who posed no danger were stuck behind bars awaiting trial because they couldn't post bond.
