Fire causes $1.2 million in damages at Easton auto repair shop
EASTON, Md. – An accidental fire caused more than $1 million in damages to an automotive shop late last week.
The fire was reported shortly after 11 a.m. Friday, at the Easton Servicecenter Inc., located at 503 North Street. More than 50 firefighters with the Easton Volunteer Fire Department responded to the two-alarm fire, which took approximately two hours to put out.
Further investigation revealed that the fire began after an employee inadvertently ignited gasoline vapors while working on a vehicle inside an interior service bay. The fire spread to nearby combustible materials, causing extensive damage throughout the structure. Multiple vehicles that were inside the garage at the time of the fire were also damaged. Total fire damage has been estimated at $1.2 million.
