FAA releases regulations for popular gift

Thousands of drones are expected to be given as gifts this holiday season, but owning a drone comes with serious responsibilities.

The FAA has released regulations in response to the increasing use of drones. Starting next December 21, owners of many small drones and model airplanes will have to register them with the government.

This applies to drones weighing between a .50 to 55 pounds.

DelDot official Joshua Thomas says it’s important to remember drones are considered aircraft not just toys.

“So the reason why it’s so important is because with more and more of them in the sky, the potential for interactions in the sky and the potential for people on the ground becomes greater.” Explains Thomas.
