Del. education group rings closing Nasdaq bell

A handful of members from the Delaware division of a national drop-out prevention program took part in a New York weekday tradition on Wednesday afternoon.
Delaware officials from the Communities In Schools program (“CIS”) were able to ring a closing bell at the Nasdaq Market-Site in Times Square.
The group reportedly rang the opening bell at the beginning of the year and was invited back Wednesday by the national program.
Louis Ervin, state mentor coordinator at CIS, says the group was granted this special privilege in response to their exceptional work in Delaware.
The state’s division reportedly serves about 10,000 students. Programs range from mentoring, opportunities for high school students to gain college credit while in school, and basic needs like housing assistance.
“For us, it’s fantastic because it gives us an opportunity to get exposure to the public.” Explains Ervin. “So we can get our message out and get organizations and individuals support a non-profit organization that’s working very diligently to provide the best services for kids that we can.”
While ringing the bell has gotten the program attention at the national level, we’re told they are always looking to expand in the first state; however, they need more funds to do so.
