NASCAR responds to recent National Anthem controversy

NASCAR International Speedway

There has been some controversy circulating around the national anthem at sporting events lately.

With the annual NASCAR races coming up in Dover, some are curious to see how fans and drivers alike will respond to our country's song.

This past weekend members of the NFL decided to kneel during the national anthem to represent their disapproval of the treatment of minorities in America.

But at a recent NASCAR race in New Hampshire, drivers and pit crews chose not to do the same.

NASCAR race organizers in Dover say their fanbase is a patriotic crowd full of people who are proud to celebrate and honor our country.

Gary Camp, the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Communications, "I think Nascar fans are some of the most patriotic fans that you're going to encounter I mean we're moving forward with the same plans that we always have we'll have a flyover, everyone will certainly be decked out in their patriotic gear supporting their favorite driver, so I don't expect any issues."

President Trump recently commended the New Hampshire NASCAR participants on twitter saying, "So proud of NASCAR and its supporters and fans. They won't put up with disrespecting our Country or our Flag – they said it loud and clear!"

Race organizers in Dover are hoping they can keep this weekend's event peaceful and without any problems.
