Justin Meekins Lands At SU

SS Justin Meekins graduated from Stephen Decatur in 2015 with high hopes of what was ahead of him. Having been a 4 year starter at short stop for the Seahawks, he had signed to continue playing at the University of Maryland. An injury to his throwing shoulder, forced him to return home to rehab, and has ultimately found him now at Salisbury University where he plans to play baseball.

That plan though was quickly derailed from a shoulder injury. The nagging injury got to the point that Meekins and his family decided the best decision for him to do, would be to completely rehab it at home, and spend some time away from the game. Upon a closer review, they found that he had a non displaced tear in his labrum of his throwing shoulder. The best recovery method was rest from and strength building exercises.

“I would say in my own mind I’m about 80% ready right now and I’m almost done my throwing program. The Therapists at Peninsula Rehad pushed me and I felt stronger after every session.”

The nest step was deciding where he wanted to continue playing, and that didn’t take too long. Salisbury University baseball head coach Brohawn reached out to Meekins as soon as he heard he was home. Browhawn preached how at SU, he would be competing for a national championship every season, and would have an opportunity to play as a true freshman.

“Coach Brohawn and I have talked about my role a lot and he told me that my role is I will play SS when Pete Grasso is pitching and recovering and when he’s playing short, I will be in the line up, whether in the outfield of at 1st or 2nd base. “

Being that SU is a DIII, the school can not officially comment on Meekins being a part of the team until the season starts. However, SU officials have confirmed that Meekins is enrolled at SU, and that he will be trying out for a roster spot this spring.

Meekins was a 2x All-State selection, 2x 1st-Team All-Bayside, 2015 Bayside Offensive Player of the Year, and a four year varsity player as a Seahawk
