Health experts say you can’t get COVID-19 from taking the vaccine

47 ABC – When it comes to COVID-19 a lot of the talk has centered around the vaccine.  Many are worried that if they take it,  they could get the virus. But health experts say that’s simply not the case.

To find out more we spoke with Dr. Yen Dang, the Director of Global Health and associate professor of pharmacy practice for University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Dr. Yang says that although this a novel vaccine, the methods used to develop it aren’t new. She says to think  of the vaccine as a genetic code that allows cells to make a protein. Once your cells have it, your body can then create memory cells which will give you immunity if you are ever exposed to coronavirus.
“This is not a live vaccine so it’s impossible for you to get Coronavirus from this vaccine people might mistake it for coronavirus because of the side effects itself which the side effects from the vaccine are way, way, way better than the side effects from Coronavirus,” said Dr. Yang.
Side effects of the vaccine include things like injection site reactions, fevers, headaches and fatigue.
