Wicomico County NAACP inducts new president via Zoom Thursday night
WICOMICO COUNTY, MD.- The Wicomico County branch of the NAACP inducted their new president on Zoom Thursday.
Dr. Brante Dashiell will be taking over for Mary Ashanti, who held the position for 24 years.
Dr. Dashiell said she is grateful to take on the role as the new President and is ready to hit the ground running.
She added they have a lot of work to do, and she wants to help be the voice for those who have no voice in the community.
“Providing a voice for our vulnerable populations, such as those in nursing homes, prisons and detention centers, more specifically the concerns that lay in the walls and the halls of ECI, with lack of or no PPE for inmates and correctional officers,” Dr.Dashiell said.
The new president added that she wants to recruit new members, rejuvenate current members, and restore those members who may have thought the NAACP was no longer relevant.
Also, she wants to review the need for school resource officers and make sure all children are receiving resources to participate in virtual learning.
