SU Women’s Basketball Drop OT Thriller

The Salisbury University women’s basketball team dropped a tough one Wednesday night when they fell to York 80-74 in overtime. The loss drops the Sea Gulls to 8-4 on the year.
Salisbury would come out of the gates hot, led by Julia McLaughlin. She would connect on a couple shots in the lane to get the offense going. The Spartans would respond though and be able to take a 2 point lead into the second quarter. There the home team would answer with a run of their own as Salisbury would take a 6 point lead into halftime. York continued to battle in the second half as Morgan Kuehne would do it all, finishing with a game high 29 points. SU would find themselves up 1 late in the 4th before a 3 point would rattle home for the road team to give them the lead. Lauren Rothfeld would then step to the line and sink two free throws to tie the game. York would call timeout to advance the ball, then hit a jumper from the corner to take a 2 point lead with 6 seconds left. That was more than enough time for McLaughlin who would drive the lane and hit a floater just before the buzzer to force overtime.
There York would strike first with back to back and one’s to grab a 4 point lead. Salisbury continued to battle, but couldn’t overcome the deficit. SU returns to work this Saturday when they hit the road to take on Mary Washington.
