Hispanic Commission celebrates driving privilege cards

Undocumented Delaware residents have been able to apply to get a driving privilege card for almost a month now, but many still don’t know what it takes to get one. That’s why Sunday in Georgetown, Del. at the Delaware Hispanic Commission hosted a kick-off event to inform people of the process at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

The event was also used an occasion to celebrate the fact that undocumented residents can now legally drive.

The Commission says there is an estimated 3,500 drivers in need of these cards, which means money will be coming in to Delaware’s economy.

“Car insurances will be bought, cars will be bought, fee’s will be paid. The legislators were amazing when they saw the benefit of all Delawareans and that’s why it’s so important and we’re celebrating that we can contribute to this country,” said Charito Calvachi-Mateyko, co-chair of the commission.

The Delaware Hispanic Commission says that more informational events need to be held.

The commission says they will host an event for free for any church or organization that asks for it.
