Dorchester County preps for snow storm

Maryland state Governor Larry Hogan has issued a state of emergency.
“The entire state of Maryland is expected to experience severe winter weather. this will include very heavy snow, high winds.” says Gov. Larry Hogan.
In Dorchester County residents tell us they will not be caught unprepared.
‘So bring it on,’ says David Lewis from Cambridge, MD.
We caught up with David Lewis who was getting some diesel in case he needs to plow his street. Lewis brought along his 88 year-old neighbor Helen Keys to pick up last minute items before the storm hits.
Helen Keys says, ‘If I need anything he looks after me.”
David Lewis says, “My neighbor is stocking up. She went and got some orange juice and some milk and I’m stocking up on some firewood in the house so we have heat and we have a gas stove so we can cook in the event we lose power.”
Dorchester County officials are recommending to make an emergency kit to last a week with supplies such food, flashlights, batteries, and bottled water. As a county Jeremy Goldman the Emergency Services Director at Dorchester County says their resources are ready to go as soon as snow starts to fly.
“Making sure we have enough sand mix, from our snow plows, to the ability to open a shelter if that becomes necessary, law enforcement agencies have the vehicles they need,” says Goldman.
The county has 21 plows staffed and ready. Goldman says that residents can make snow plower’s job easier the next few days by limiting ” travel to absolutely only necessary travel, the faster we will be able to clear roads and make it a safe travel.”
