Somerset Co. man arrested for arson

A 26-year-old man arrested with multiple arson-related charges stemming from a Friday night fire could face up to 84 years behind bars if convicted, authorities said Sunday.

We’re told he fire was initially reported on Friday at the front porch and dwelling of a home on the 30000 block of Bardwell Drive.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, Jamar Donte Pittman was spotted outside of the home around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

An investigation later determined the fire was intentionally set by Pittman when he allegedly used an ignitable liquid to light a comforter draped over the hand rail of the porch.

Pittman was not able to be located immediately and an arrest warrant was obtained, according to authorities.

The fire reportedly caused approximately $550 in damage to the structure
and contents.

Nearly ten firefighters from the Princess Anne Volunteer Fire Department responded to the one alarm blaze. We’re told theyquickly controlled the fire within five minutes after arrival on the scene.

The Maryland State Police Fugitive Task Force took Pittman into custody without incident on Sunday.

He was transported to the Somerset County Detention Center where he remains on a $350,000 bond.

Pittman faces charges of 1st Degree Arson, 2nd Degree Arson, 2nd Degree Burglary, 2nd Degree Attempted Assault, 4th Degree Burglary, Reckless Endangerment, 2nd Degree Malicious Burning, and Malicious Destruction of Property.

If found guilty of all charges, Pittman could face a penalty of up to 84 years imprisonment and/or $88,000 in fines for the offenses.
