DSP arrest man for reckless driving, man assaults K9 dog while police attempt to make arrest

MILLSBORO, Del.-Police arrested a man for allegedly driving a car recklessly Saturday night in Millsboro.

We’re told Saturday night police attempted to pull 37-year-old Dwayne Wiltbank Jr. over for reckless driving and possibly driving under the influence on the Holly Lake Campground.

Police said Wiltbank failed to stop for police and continued to drive recklessly in the direction of several police cars and intentionally hit a marked vehicle head on.

We’re told after Wiltbank’s car stopped working for a moment police were able to surround him and prevent him from driving any further.

Police said Wiltbank intentionally reversed his car into another police car.

We’re told police tried to use a K9 to help arrest Wiltbank, but it was unsuccessful after he began assaulting the dog.

Eventually, police were able to get inside of Wiltbank’s car and arrested him after using a taser.

Wiltbank was transported to a local area hospital where he was treated for minor injuries caused during the incident.

Wiltbank is now facing charges that include:

Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (felony) -2 counts
Reckless Endanger 1st Degree (felony) – 2 counts
Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (felony)
Offensive Touching of a Law Enforcement Officer
Criminal Mischief – 3 counts
Assault 2nd Degree on Law Enforcement Animal
Driving Under the Influence of a Drug

Wiltbank was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #3 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $63,600.00 cash bond.
