Gas Prices Continue to Rise

Hurricane Harvey's aftermath are still being felt.

Gas prices all over the country, including Delmarva, are surpassing what analysts predicted.

The average price of a gallon of gas was expected to peak at about $2.50 cents per gallon.

The spike was triggered by the forced shutdown of several refineries along the Gulf Coast, which feeds the pipeline that supplies gas to the Eastern Shore.

But now, analysts say the price of gas may continue to spike because of Harvey's impact and a new hurricane that is expected to wreak more havoc later this week.

"And we're not sure exactly whats gonna happen this week. Its all depending primarily on the efforts in the Gulf region. Help has to be able to get that production back up to speed. U we also are keeping an eye on Irma, the next storm as its moving its way across the Atlantic."

Ken Grant says refineries were expected to open up by the end of the Labor Day weekend but about 13% to 15% are still closed because the flood waters have yet to recede.

The average price of a gallon of gas in Maryland is up to $2.72.

In Delaware, its up  $2.69 cents.
