SU Baseball Stumbles In Season Opener

The No. 4 Salisbury University baseball team fell in their season opener Saturday afternoon to No. 1 Cortland State 8-4. The loss drops the Sea Gulls to 0-1 on the year.

The Sea Gulls would jump out to a 2-0 lead after Pete Grasso sent a chopper to short in the 4th. The throw to first would be off the mark and allow for a pair of runs to score. The Dragons would come fighting back in the 5th, scoring 3 runs off a 2 RBI single and a run scored off an error. Salisbury would then score a run in the 7th off an RBI single from Mike Labriola. But Cortland State would take advantage of a couple miscues by the Sea Gulls in the 8th to plate 5 more runs, and that would be enough as they would close it out for the win.

The teams return to action on Sunday for the last game of their series at 11am.
