Satellite View of Rapid Snow Melt in Wisconsin and Michigan

These two AQUA Modis images, three days apart, show the rapid melting of snow near Lake Michigan.
The blue water spotted in these images is the recognizable Lake Michigan. The image on the right shows an Aqua MODIS image of the snow cover on February 17, 2016 over most of Wisconsin, Michigan and Canada.
The record breaking heat on Saturday, February 20, 2016 allowed for a significant amount of melting. The image on the left shows that a lot of the snow melted in southern Wisconsin and Lower Michigan. Jackson, Michigan which is located in the south central region of the state had a high temperature of 58º on Saturday, which is 22º above the normal of 36º.
In Milwaukee, Wisconsin, located on the southern part of the state, along Lake Michigan hit a high temperature 19º above normal on Saturday. These unseasonable temperatures, were probably a relief for locals and melted a lot of snow quickly.
