Beach patrol warns beachgoers about dangerous conditions

Heavy rains hit Delmarva for most of the day Tuesday, as a coastal storm developed off the coast. As a result, strong winds hit beach towns, making swimming conditions dangerous.

47 ABC's Justina Coronel is live in Ocean City with more details on how this storm is affecting the currents and surf.

Julian, as you can tell it's definitely been raining down on us. Right now, the beach is empty of course due to the rain and winds.

We spoke to Ocean City Beach Patrol. They say the rip current has been an issue all day along with heavy surf building up. We're told it's dangerous surf. Predictions are 8 to 13 feet off shore but of course they'll die down before get to shore. On a typical day they see about a foot but today they're seeing 4 to 5 feet. And I am five foot so that gives you an estimation of how high they are.

I spoke to Ocean city beach patrol's lieutenant who says they are limiting beach goers from going in.

"Right now we're limiting water activity to maybe getting your feet wet. It's very dangerous and the guards have a hard time with the visibility with the rain so if we can't see you it's a hard time monitoring what's going on in the water," Lieutenant Ward Kovacs, of the Ocean City Beach Patrol, said.
