Matthews Sparks Run To Push Warriors Past Jags

The Pocomoke boys basketball team are back in the regional championship game after they defeated rival Washington 80-58 on Wednesday. The Warriors will now face Kent County in the regional championship game.
The Jaguars would come out of the gates fired up. Montraz Oliver would tally 7 of his 12 points in the first quarter to get the game started Washington would then get buckets from Dorian Stevens, Julius White, Tyler Paulson and Jordan Sterling in the second quarter to rout to shocking the home crowd by taking a 30-29 lead into the break.
The third quarter belonged to the Warriors though, or more specifically, to Tyrone Matthews. The junior poured in 14 of his team 24 points in the quarter as Pocomoke finally got going. They would out-score the Jags by 11 in the quarter to take a double digit lead into the 4th. There, Tyler Nixon continued to help push the lead, coming up with several steals, leading to easy buckets for Jerrick Johnson and LiCurtis Whitney. Pocomoke continued to crank up their defense and would have the lead swell to over 20 in the quarter. The Warriors would then close the game out to a standing ovation as Pocomoke pulled it’s starters late in the game.
