Dept. of Agriculture warns about Delaware pesticide applicator scam

State Agriculture officials are warning residents of a pesticide applicator scam used to get residents to leave their homes, in Delaware.
The Delaware Department of Agriculture says people are going door to door impersonating farmers and agricultural pesticide applicators in efforts to scam residents.
In this scam, officials say the impersonators are telling the homeowners that they must leave their house for a period of 12 hours, while the individual sprays crops in the nearby area. According to the Department of Agriculture, there are currently no agriculture pesticide spraying happening in the state that would require people to leave their homes.
State officials called this an attempt to get homeowners to leave their home unattended.
The Department of Agriculture urges residents to be aware by not opening your door to unfamiliar persons, taking notice of your surroundings, and reporting suspicious people in your neighborhood or on your property to the local authorities.
