Salisbury road caves in after weekend rain

Parts of Wicomico County were under water this weekend after heavy rains hit the area, some roads even caved in.

American Legion Road in Salisbury was one of those roads. A portion of that road leading to the American Legion and the Verizon building completely collapsed.

The Superintendent of Roads for Wicomico County says this was the worst of the damage and will take quite some time to fix since a county water line and fiber optic cables run through this road.

Officials say this is their number one priority to repair since its the only way to get in and out of the American Legion as well as the Verizon building.

"By the end of this week would be best case scenario. If were even able to begin tomorrow it's going to take us three to four days more than likely to get those road where a vehicle can go through it and that's if we don't have any more precipitation between now and when we finish the job," says Lee Owten, the Superintendent of Roads for Wicomico County.

Stockley Road, right outside of Pittsville, also caved in and is closed at this time.
