PITTSVILLE, Md. – Police say a Pittsville man has been arrested on multiple charges in connection to a reported assault that happened earlier this month.

We’re told the incident took place on July 4th, in the 7000 block of Jones Hastings Road. According to witnesses, while walking home from a gathering after consuming alcohol, 53-year-old Hubert Smullen grabbed his girlfriend by the hair and tried to pull her down the road. At one point he was seen slamming his girlfriend to the ground before pushing her into the yard.

The victim also reported that the assault continued into the next day, with Smullen allegedly trying to choke her while threatening to kill her. Smullen reportedly also brandished a box cutter during the incident.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Smullen, who had temporarily left the state. He was arrested on Friday and charged with first and second degree assault and dangerous weapon. He was held without bond.
