Crash leads to 9th DUI charge for Dover man

1280 Terry Brooks

DOVER, Del. – Delaware State Police say a Dover man was arrested Sunday night on his 9th DUI and other charges after he reportedly crashed his vehicle.

We’re told that troopers were called to the 3000 block of Mid State Road in Felton at around 8:40 p.m. for a reported single vehicle crash. A witness told police that a gold 2003 GMC Envoy was traveling westbound on Mid State Road when it exited the road and hit a standing tree. After hitting the tree, the vehicle continued in a westerly direction, hit a landscape trailer parked on the property, and continued to drive through a cornfield.

Troopers found the vehicle disabled in the cornfield and made contact with the driver, 63-year-old Terry Brooks. An odor of alcohol was detected and a DUI investigation ensued. A computer check revealed that Brooks’ drivers license was suspended and he had been arrested for 8 prior DUI offenses.

Brooks was subsequently arrested and charged with 9th offense DUI, leaving the scene of a property collision accident, driving while suspended or revoked, malicious mischief by a motor vehicle, failure to provide information at collision scene resulting in property damage, failure to have insurance identification in possession, failure to have registration card in possession, expired tags, failure to remain in a single lane, and failure to report a collision involving alcohol or drugs.

He was held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $7,009 secured bond.
