Police: Man arrested for DUI after striking a ditch in Whaleyville

Police say that a Whaleyville man was arrested for DUI after he struck a ditch in Worcester County on Thursday afternoon.
According to Maryland State Police, at 12:38 p.m. on Thursday, troopers from the Berlin Barrack responded to the area of Route 610 at Murray Road in Whaleyville regarding a car crash.
Investigators say that a 2005 Dodge Truck operated by 66-year-old Charles Jerread was traveling on Route 610 when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a ditch.
Upon contacting Jerread, the trooper reportedly smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and found that Jerread's eyes were red, bloodshot and glassy.
Due to those observations, standardized field sobriety tests were given to Jerread to which he allegedly performed poorly. Jerread was arrested for DUI and transported to the Berlin Barrack where he refused an intoximeter test.
Jerread did not suffer any injuries. He was issued citations for driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol and negligent/reckless driving. No state property was damaged. Jerread was released to a family member.
