Help for immigrants during coronavirus pandemic

DELMARVA – Community activists tell 47ABC a lot of immigrant families are in urgent need of resources during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Safe Communities Coalition, there are several ways people can help push information like prevention tips into these communities.

They say grassroots organizations need to connect with state and local leaders to help provide resources in Creole or Spanish.

We’re told educators must continue to provide updated information on the virus to students and their families. They say these kinds of efforts are crucial in helping families navigate their way through the pandemic.

“It’s become urgent and crucial to be responsive because they are a community that is largely ignored,” said Dalissy Washington, co-coordinator at the Safe Communities Coalition.

“That was pre-COVID and we do not want it to continue during COVID, during this crisis,” said Washington.

Members of the Safe Communities Coalition also tell us they’re working on bringing awareness about this need to state and local leaders. They say it’s these kinds of efforts that will make a difference.
