UPDATE: Worcester Co. teacher found not guilty on sex offense charges

A Pocomoke Middle School teacher who was facing several charges for the alleged sexual assault of a number of his students, has been found not guilty on all counts. That’s according to an attorney for William Cathell.

The charges came after Cathell was arrested last year, when investigators started looking into complaints made against the Spanish-foreign language teacher. Four victims were apparently identified.

Cathell’s attorney tells 47 ABC he was originally facing 24 charges, but a judge dismissed eight of them. The jury then found Cathell not guilty on the remaining 16.

Cathell was put on paid administrative leave from his post at Pocomoke Middle during the investigation and officials with Worcester County Public Schools say he will remain there as school officials evaluate his employment status following his acquittal Friday. His lawyer says Cathell intends to resume his job.
