Delivery apps hurting restaurants by charging commission rates

SALISBURY, Md.- While the coronavirus pandemic has restaurants doing more take out, people staying at home are using delivery apps to get their food, but that is actually hurting some businesses.

The owner of Roadie Joe’s, in Salisbury, told us that when customers use delivery apps, like Grub Hub for delivery, they are charging 25-30% commission rates.

And during this time when business is slow, that loss of money makes a huge difference.

“It’s a completely different game when I’m shoveling food out the door, so we’re working twice as hard in the kitchen right now for half the money that we work for and it’s just different,” Jeremy Norton, owner of Roadie Joe’s, said.

We also reached out to Market Street Inn in Salisbury and they said they are dealing with the same issue.

Having customers order directly from the restaurant would help them make more profit.
