New basketball camp in Wico. Co. off to a running start

With summer in full swing, many kids have more free time on their hands. A new camp in Wicomico County is using that time to polish the next generation of local ball players.
The FUNdamental Hoops summer camp is off to a running start in Wicomico County.
"I've been shocked and surprised by how much these kids want to learn," says Coach Brian McDermott.
The new basketball camp brings local children together to jumpstart their skills.
"We are looking at building a better basketball program here in Wicomico County. This is the right age for them to gather this information, their minds are like sponges right now, they hear what is good and how the game is supposed to be played," says Coach McDermott.
Coach McDermott tells us the camp helps children channel their energy during the summer, but also nip any bad habits that occur while playing basketball.
"Like when players catch the ball, the first they do is put their head down and start dribbling, and that eliminates some of their options with what they can do with the ball," says Coach McDermott.
Coach McDermott also says he hopes the camp helps them develop life skills that they can carry off the court.
"We are all prone to making mistakes from time to time, but that's were the discipline comes in with a lot of these kids. The future is really bright for us, because we have great kids that want to learn and get better down here on the shore," says Coach McDermott.
Registration has opened for the second session of this basketball camp. The second session will be held from July 17-21.
