Van Hollen campaigns in Salisbury

Congressman and Senate hopeful Chris Van Hollen was on the Eastern Shore Saturday meeting with local businesses, leaders and organizations as part of his campaign to succeed United States Sen. Barbara Mikulski.

The visit, we’re told, was to show the congressman’s commitment to reaching out to every part of the state.

Van Hollen began his tour in Kent County before moving to Talbot County and Wicomico County.

While in Wicomico County, the congressman met with county councilman Ernie Davis, former county executive Rick Pollit and Salisbury Mayor Jake Day.

47 ABC spoke with Day about what Van Hollen’s visit meant for the area.

“It’s nice when we can have them come here, see our challenges first hand, see our problems first hand, and see what we offer as a community first hand,” Day said.

Political pundits have said that right now Van Hollen is neck and neck with Rep. Donna Edwards in the race for replacing Sen. Mikulski in the senate.
