Smyrna PD: man wanted in multiple states arrested

Smyrna police say 21-year-old Delquan Shakir, of Smyrna, was arrested late Friday night during a traffic stop.

Police say Shakir was driving on S. Carter Rd. while involved in a physical altercation with a female passenger. We’re told the passenger was trying to leave the moving car.

After making contact with Shakir, police say he was taken into custody and tried to provide a fake name to officers. According to Smyrna PD, Shakir assaulted the female and was found with marijuana packaged for sale as well as prescription drugs. He apparently did not have a valid driver’s license.

Shakir was also reportedly already wanted by the Dover Police Department and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office (PA).

Smyrna Police say Shakir is facing the following charges: Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, 3rd Degree Assault, Criminal Impersonation, Possession of a controlled substance, and driving while suspended/revoked.

We’re told Shakir was committed to the Department of Corrections and is being held on $106,550 cash bond and $500 secured bond from Dover PD. He is also reportedly waiting for an extradition hearing regarding his fugitive status in Pennsylvania.
