Oscar winning actress Patty Duke died Tuesday at age 69 and while many across the nation are mourning her, so is the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (“UMES”).

The university tweeted Tuesday afternoon sending their condolences for Duke, who received an honorary degree from UMES in 2010.

Duke, who won an Oscar for her role playing Helen Keller in “The Miracle Worker”, has visited the university in the past to partake in a gala. It served as the school’s signature fundraiser.

Duke reportedly died early Tuesday of sepsis from a ruptured intestine.

She built on her success as a teenager playing identical cousins on the popular sitcom “The Patty Duke Show.”
