Air conditioning unit to blame for Delmar apartment fire

An air conditioning unit is being blamed for an apartment fire in Delmar.
The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal says the flames started just after 6:10 PM, in an apartment on Barbara Anne Way, in the Ponds Edge Apartment complex. A neighbor apparently reported the situation, which prompted nine firefighters from the Delmar Volunteer Fire Department to respond to the scene.
They reportedly had the blaze under control in ten minutes. Investigators say the fire started in an outdoor air conditioning unit, and was caused by an electrical malfunction of service wire for the unit, that ignited fresh mulch that was put down two days before.
Damages are estimated at $300. No injuries were reported.
