Helping the community stay healthy

National Public Health Awareness Week starts Sunday, but Saturday health awareness was on full blast at James Bennett High School in Salisbury as Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) held their annual Live Well Health Fest.

The event had over 35 free health screenings for things such as vision and hearing, glaucoma, stroke assessment, and kidney disease.

Free samples of healthy foods were also given out.

The point though, to encourage people of all ages to come out and make an effort to find out how healthy you are, and how you can become healthier.

Officials say the fact that the event is free, is critical to its success.

“It’s absolutely essential, as I said we’re not replacing your doctor, but there are a lot of folks who don’t have a doctor, or don’t have the funds, or the means to have an annual physical or an annual appointment with their doctor,” said Roger Follebout, community relations director for PRMC.

Follebout also mentioned that the hospital launched a completely new website this past week, the link can be found here.
