Va. man tears down pool after toddler found dead inside it

A Virginia Beach homeowner has torn down the above ground pool outside his home after a toddler was found dead in it.

Kevin Dillard said Saturday that the young girl death “devastates” him. He used a hammer to break holes in the sides of the pool, draining the water.

Virginia Beach police say the girl was reported missing around 7 p.m. Friday night and found about 20 minutes later in the pool. Police say the child had been staying with her grandmother, who lives next door.

Dillard told reporters he had lived in the house for 2 ½ years and that the pool was there when he moved in. His nephews helped him tear it down. He says he didn’t want to force them to have to look at it.
