Somerset County Health Department offers training to reverse opioid overdoses

The Somerset County Health Department is continuing efforts against opioid addiction. The county started offering training for people interested in learning how to use an opioid antidote called Narcan. Narcan is a nasal spray used to reverse an opioid overdose temporarily before EMS arrive. The new version of Narcan only requires one dose in one nostril. The Somerset County Health Department tells us so far they have trained schools and local organizations, but wanted to make this free opportunity available to local residents as well.

Jalissa Worthy, the Opioid Misuse Coordinator says, “So we want to provide this training. The problem is increasing so we want to provide a solution so that people don’t feel helpless in the face of the crisis so they know I can get training. Ok prepared. Just in case someone close by me is experiencing the problem they know what to do.”

Training will take every first Monday of the month from 5:30-6:30pm at the Behavioral Health Building and is free for Somerset residents and people who work in the county.
