(AP) – Former Republican Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell says she pretended to live at a townhouse that served as her 2010 campaign headquarters because it was in a secure complex and she feared for her safety.

At her deposition in a Federal Elections Commission lawsuit, O’Donnell said that while she wanted potential harassers to think she stayed at the townhouse, she never really lived or slept there.

O’Donnell indicated that she remains concerned about her safety and privacy, telling an FEC lawyer that she would not answer his “prying, invasive questions” and refusing to provide details about her past and current living arrangements.

The lawsuit claims O’Donnell used at least $20,000 in campaign contributions to pay bills at the townhouse.

O’Donnell denies any wrongdoing and has called the lawsuit a “witch hunt.”
