Dover woman sentenced for violating the Prescription Monitoring Act

Officials say that a Dover woman who was convicted of violating the Prescription Monitoring Act was sentenced last Tuesday.
According to Delaware Department of Justice officials, Michelle Staats, a former nursing director of Kent-Sussex Community Services, was sentenced to two years of probation along with 50 hours of community service.
Staats, who was found guilty of unauthorized access of prescription monitoring information and making a false statement, became the first person convicted of violating the Delaware Prescription Monitoring Act last month after she accessed information of three people who were not her patients.
She also made several false statements denying her responsibility.
The Act helps cut the misuse and diversion of controlled substances while promoting improved professional practice and patient care.
