Mathias supported Hogan’s transportation bill veto

Sen. Jim Mathias (D) believes the fact that the Maryland General Assembly overrode Gov. Larry Hogan’s veto of the transportation scoring bill presents a challenge to the Eastern Shore, but one that he’s ready to face.

The bill calls for transportation projects in the state to be scored, then ranked accordingly with rankings dictating which projects should receive priority for funding.

Friday Mathias voted to uphold Hogan’s veto, and originally voted against the bill when it first came up in the senate.

Mathias had said his constituents believe the bill would cause the Eastern Shore to lose out on funding for potential capital improvement projects.

However, after Hogans veto of the bill was overturned in the senate, Mathias said he is confident that he will be able to work with the leadership in Annapolis to continue to fund projects on the shore.

“We will make it work, we will make it work, this is just a challenge, and we’ll work through the challenge, but it’s all about strong leadership and about continuing to build effective relationships,” Mathias said.

The legislative session is set to finish on Monday at midnight.
