Easton man arrested after scuffle with police

Easton police say a 23-year-old man faces DUI and assault charges after trying to flee a traffic stop.

We’re told on Friday, Marcelo Lopez-Perez was driving in the area of East Ave. And Brookletts Ave. when officers tried to stop him for driving without a license.

Lopez-Perez then allegedly stopped his car and fled on foot away from officers. After chasing him down, police say Lopez-Perez and an officer wound up on the ground, resisting orders and fighting with the officer. We’re told the officer sustained minor injuries.

Police say Lopez-Perez’s breath smelled of alcohol.

Easton police say the 23-year-old was arrested and is being charged with 2nd Degree Assault, Resisting Arrest, Trespassing, Driving While Impaired by Alcohol, Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving without a License, and Attempting to Flee and Elude an Officer on Foot.
